If you want get better performance (e.g. more sales, more productivity), should you pay people more? After all, the basic design principle behind an incentive scheme is "If you Reward something, you get more of the Behaviour that led to the Reward"

But does it really work that way? Check out the cool video here, and share your thoughts. You can comment on the video on Facebook, or on this post.

Pay Vs Performance

Hey bro,

I am glad i found a place that you blog , its kind of a honor to meet someone who won a gold medal in IOI. I am not much of a person for you to know , just a fan of the talent you've got. Because when i wrote for the selection for IOI , i was in grade 9 and didn't know head or tail about the algorithm that was in the paper.

Any how , with regards your blog post , pay is indeed a motivating factor for an individual but i do not believe that it would fuel a persons performance in a major way. From my personal experience , i work as a bank teller with a reasonable salary, even though i got a pay hike close to 10k , i am still a poor performer in the bank and one main reason is i hate my job. So i think more than the pay a person should enjoy what they do ...

Hope i was not over exaggerating my passion towards a career in Banking.

Regards ,

Gayan
